Rom 15:1 We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please
emotionally excited ourselves. 2 Let every one of us please his neighbour for
his good to edification. 3 For even Christ the standard pleased not himself;
but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me. 4 For whatsoever
things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and
comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
Christ Pleased Not Himself…
Psa 40:6 Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering
and sin offering hast thou not required. 7 Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the
book it is written of me, 8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my
heart.
Neh 9:24 - 31 Nevertheless for thy great mercies' sake thou didst not utterly consume them,
nor forsake them; for thou art a gracious and merciful God.
Rom 15:5 Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another
according to Christ Jesus: 6 That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God,
even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. 7 Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ
also received us to the glory of God.
God is the standard of patience & consolation (with Israel)
and he has given us a grant.
This grant is specific.
We are to be likeminded i.e., be like God, towards one another just like his son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Verse six
indicates purpose "that" we act as ONE in bringing glory to God the Father. Wherefore?
By receiving other believers (all of them!) as Christ received us - to the Glory of God.
The practical application is plain.
We sometimes think more of our selves than we ought
Because of our understanding of the word of God rightly divided.
Because of our standing of a perceived standing.
Because of our race, face cute , place society – the cross is a leveler of these
things
Remember the patience and consolation of God in dealing with us as we deal with others
who know not the truth.
