Is The Pope Turning Protest - ant?
According to "Focus" magazine, the Pope wanted to visit Wartburg Castle, where Martin Luther
translated the New Testament into German, and announce that he was canceling Luther's excommunication
from the Roman Catholic Church. This year is the 450th anniversary of the death of Martin Luther, who
was excommunicated by the church in 1521 after refusing to retract teachings the Roman Catholic Church
judged heretical. The Pope's plans were dropped after strong objections by Germany's Catholic leaders.
The magazine quoted an unnamed adviser to the German bishops as saying, "For God's sake, not in
the Protestant stronghold of the Wartburg. Is the Pope becoming Protestant?"
Maybe he is! Maybe he will believe the gospel of grace and get saved. Maybe he will stop teaching
a false gospel of good works for salvation. Maybe he will start to believe the word of God not the traditions
of men. Maybe the Pope will get right with God. I hope and pray he does…but what about you? You do not
have to wait for the Pope to get saved. You can do that today. You can do that right now. One of these
days the Pope will believe the word of God, let's just pray it is not to late when he does.
