Just The Truth From The Word Of God Rightly Divided
Introduction
The Lord Jesus Christ begins his earthy ministry to the nation of Israel by taking them up
on a mountain. A mountain in the bible can be a type of kingdom, as it is here. A good cross
reference to that would be: Dan 2:44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven
set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other
people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.
45 Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and
that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath
made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the
interpretation thereof sure.
He takes them up into the mountain as the King of Glory and gives them what is commonly
called the sermon on the mount. What he gives them is an amplification of the law of
Moses. For example:
Mat 5:21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and
whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: 22 But I say unto you, That
whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and
whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall
say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
Mat 5:27Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not
commit adultery: 28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her
hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Mat 5:31 It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of
divorcement: 32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the
cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is
divorced committeth adultery.
What we have here is the Lord Jesus Christ presenting himself as King and
giving his policy or platform of righteousness behavior and judgement to be implemented in that
kingdom.
Now come to chapter 7:28 where he concludes his message…
Mat 7:28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished
at his doctrine: 29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the
scribes. 8:1 When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him.
The Lord Jesus Christ was teaching them doctrine about the King and the kingdom he came to
set up. He then goes down the mountain and begins to establish his right to the throne by "many
infallible proofs" as Peter says: Acts 2:22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth,
a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the
midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:
His first miracle when he comes down from the mountain illustrates his power to heal the nation
of Israel.
Mat 8:2 And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou
canst make me clean. 3 And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou
clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. 4 And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no
man; but go thy way, show thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a
testimony unto them.
Lev 13:45-45 = without the camp…
His second miracle when he comes down from the mountain illustrates his power to heal the
Gentiles and the Gentiles recognize his authority immediately.
Mat 8:5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion,
beseeching him, 6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously
tormented. 7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. 8 The centurion answered and said,
Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the
word only, and my servant shall be healed. 9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers
under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my
servant, Do this, and he doeth it. 10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that
followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. 11 And
I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham,
and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven. 12 But the children of the kingdom shall be
cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 13 And Jesus said unto
the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was
healed in the selfsame hour.
His third miracle when he comes down from the mountain illustrates his power to (motivate
mother-in-laws) heal all manner of sickness.
Mat 8:14 And when Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother laid,
and sick of a fever. 15 And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and
ministered unto them.
Mat 4:23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel
of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
Mat 10:1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean
spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.
His fourth miracle when he comes down from the mountain illustrates his compassion - even after
the evening had come…
Mat 8:16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were
possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed
all that were sick: 17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses. Mat 8:19 And a certain scribe came,
and said unto him, Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. 20 And Jesus saith unto
him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where
to lay his head. 21 And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and
bury my father. 22 But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.
His fifth miracle when he comes down from the mountain illustrates his power over nature…. He is
God… you know!!!
Matt 8:23 And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. 24
And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the
waves: but he was asleep. 25 And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord,
save us: we perish. 26 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he
arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. 27 But the men marvelled,
saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!
His sixth miracle when he comes down from the mountain illustrates his power over the fallen
host of heaven
Mat 8:28 And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there
met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man
might pass by that way. 29 And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee,
Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time? 30 And
there was a good way off from them an herd of many swine feeding. 31 So the devils besought
him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine. 32 And he said unto
them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the herd of swine: and, behold, the
whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters. 33
And they that kept them fled, and went their ways into the city, and told every thing, and what was
befallen to the possessed of the devils.
Now notice the outcome of all these miracles…
Mat 8:34And, behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus: and when they saw him,
they besought him that he would depart out of their coasts.
This pattern continues all the way up to chapter 17 where he once again goes up the mountain…
when he comes back down.. he heads towards Calvary.
In Chapter 16 we see the continued pattern of unbelief and the "departing" of the Lord Jesus
Christ.
Mat 16:1 The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would show
them a sign from heaven. 2 He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be
fair weather: for the sky is red. 3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky
is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern
the signs of the times? 4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall
no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and
departed.
Could there be a sadder pronouncement? The evil Jewish leaders have rejected the son of God…. John
1:11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.. and now the Lord Jesus Christ has two
more mountains to climb. The mount of Transfiguration and CALVERY!
The Mount Of Transfiguration
Mat 17:1 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up
into an high mountain apart, 2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun,
and his raiment was white as the light. 3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias
talking with him.
Mat 17:4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou
wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. 5
While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud,
which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. Mat 17:6 And when the
disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. 7 And Jesus came and touched
them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. 8 And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no
man, save Jesus only. 9 And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying,
Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.
God is now free to initiate the Mystery program and send the gospel of grace to the Gentiles.
God raises up the apostle Paul the apostle to the Gentiles, and sends him forth with a new and
different gospel, the gospel of the grace of God, not the gospel of the kingdom given to Peter and
the 11.
As Paul goes forth he continues to plead with Israel to come to Christ under his gospel message.
This message too is rejected three times.
Strike One: Acts 13:46Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said,
It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it
from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.
Strike Two: Acts 18:6 And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook
his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean: from henceforth I
will go unto the Gentiles.
Strike Three: Acts 28:28 Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is
sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.
Conclusion: Israel rejected God the Father in the Old Testament, God the Son in the New
Testament and God the Holy Spirit in the Book of Acts. God then sets them aside for that reason and
for a season. He then offers them and us, as Gentiles, salvation by grace through faith through the
preaching of Jesus Christ according to the revelation of the mystery.
Israel, 3 times again, rejects the provision of God. By the close of the book of Acts they are
accounted as the heathen by God and Paul. They become nationally one of the Gentile nations.
Acts 28:28 Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the
Gentiles, and that they will hear it.
